Upcoming Events in Tyler: Art of Peace Festival, 5K Run, and Forum for All

A Peace Forum will be held, Tuesday, September 16, at 5:30 p.m. at Tyler Junior College's Rogers Student Center, which will serve as a kick off to a great event.

The African-American Cultural Events Committee has scheduled a Sickle Cell Youth Scholarship 5K Walk/Run on September 20, 2014 (9:00 a.m. -12 NOON) at Woldert Park 701 W.32nd St. in Tyler, Texas. The schedule is follows:

7:00 a.m. Registration begins ($15.00 per person, or $60 per team) A team consists of 8 or more people
8:00 a.m. Stretching and Aerobics Workout. ($5 Kids fun run with an adult entry age 12/under)
9:00 a.m. Walk/Run Begins
9:30 a.m. Concurrent Awareness Sessions:

The purpose of the Sickle Cell Youth Scholarship 5K Walk/Run is to create awareness in the community of the Sickle Cell disease that is prominent among African Americans, and provide technical assistance to parents of underserved and deserving youth who desire to attend college. Portion of the funds raised will be granted to Sickle Cell Research and Awareness and Youth College Scholarships for local students.

The Tyler Organization of Men and Smith County Democratic Party will present a Political Forum and Gospel Concert with emphasis on voter registration. If you are not registered to vote this was planned with you in mind.

This is a great opportunity to meet national, state and Smith county candidates for office. Find out how you can make a difference. The event will be located at St. Louis Baptist Church, 4000 Frankston Hwy, Tyler, Texas 75701 on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The event is open to the public.
