Longview ISD Seeks Community Input on Superintendent Search

The Board of Trustees of the Longview Independent School District in Longview, Texas is seeking a dynamic leader to serve as its superintendent.   

The vacancy is created by the retirement of Dr. James E. Wilcox. Dr. Wilcox has served as superintendent since 2007.

Longview ISD has scheduled 2 community forums for public input into the superintendent search. Please attend one of the forums and let your presence and voice be heard.

  • Monday, March 17 at 12 noon
  • Tuesday, March 18 at 5:30pm

Initial Interviews - April 21, 22, 26 
April 28 (6:30 and 8:30 p.m.)
April 29 (6:30 and 8:30 p.m.)
May 1 (6:30 and 8:30 p.m.)
May 2 (6:30 p.m. -- Review candidates at 8:30 p.m.)

Board Visits Candidates’ Home Districts
May 5 (7 p.m.) Follow-up w/ finalist
May 6 (7 p.m.) Follow-up w/ finalist 

Board Meetings (All meetings are open to the public)
May 12 (7 p.m.) - Board Meeting at ESC; name lone finalist, if desired.  Board Releases Name of Finalist 

June 9 (7 p.m.) Board Meeting at ESC; name lone finalist, if not done May 12
June 16 - Board Votes on Finalist

Newly elected superintendent may begin daily rate basis prior to July 1, if board desires.
July 1 - Contract begins.  Superintendent Reports to District

Longview ISD is located approximately 120 miles east of Dallas and 60 miles west of Shreveport, LA. LISD serves approximately 8,700 students and encompasses 127 square miles. 
 
The student body is 38.3% African American, 20.8% Caucasian, 36.0% Hispanic, 3.6% other.  The district employs 1,280 total employees.
